Businesses of all sizes are trying to reduce their energy consumption and bills. To do this, they need to understand how buildings operate and how they can control their consumption. Most of the time, energy usage is invisible to the users and the electricity bill is the only monthly feedback. Making the energy consumption promptly visible can make the difference and foster efficient energy usage. Currently, the solution for appliance or circuit level energy monitoring is installing a sub-metering solution in the entire building. This solution is extremely complex, costly and has a long installation time.


A non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM)- based energy monitoring system can provide the total (aggregated) energy consumption along with the disaggregated energy consumption of the individual appliances. NILM can separate the energy consumption of multiple appliances with the help of only one point of measurement. Compared to other energy monitoring systems, the maintenance, installation and hardware costs of NILM are lower and at the same time, it provides a highly detailed consumption analysis. The core idea of the NILM technology is based on the assumption that every facility and device influences current and voltage in a characteristic way and leaves a “fingerprint” in the electricity grid. This “fingerprint” is recorded in the form of total aggregated energy consumption. This process is called disaggregation of the load.


The solution will help businesses monitor their building's energy consumption. Thanks to the real-time monitoring, businesses will always know when and where users are consuming energy. Hidden anomalies can be detected with sub-millisecond data, power quality and total harmonic distortion. The solution will also provide an analytical report of the building’s energy consumption, along with a crystal-clear view of how users use electricity, while spotting levers for saving energy. To simplify monitoring, automatic email reports and alerts can also be provided, leading to huge savings and sustainable growth for businesses.
